Introduction

Purpose of this Document

The purpose of this document is to provide a set of policies and procedures for those who have responsibility for the protection of children and young people in the life of the Evangelical Catholic Church.

The document expresses the commitment of the Church to best practice in this area, including the development of effective structures for safeguarding children, for responding to suspicions or allegations of child abuse and for providing pastoral supports and training.

This document provides a more comprehensive and unified approach to child protection across the Evangelical Catholic Church.  In particular, by proposing a single national structure for the monitoring and managing of child protection issues, it aims to bring greater clarity and consistency to the Church’s procedures in relation to child protection.
