Regarding the Canonical Status of Father James Radloff

March 17, 2015

My dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

In an announcement published by Bishop Liam Cary, Roman Catholic Bishop for the Diocese pf Baker Oregon, Father James Radloff, a priest in good standing within the Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest and Pastor of Holy Communion Evangelical Catholic Church in Bend Oregon, was declared ex-communicated from "the Church" and forbidden to function or perform any priestly or sacramental functions.

In April of 2014, Father James Radloff resigned his position as a Roman Catholic priest for the Diocese of Baker Oregon and also his membership within the Church of Rome.  The style and form of Father Radloff's letter of resignation fulfilled the professional and canonical requirements of the Roman Catholic Church.

After Father Radloff's resignation from the Church of Rome, he became a member of the Evangelical Catholic Church through our Rite of Canonical Reception and made petition to become a candidate for Clerical Incardination into the Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest.  Father Radloff's petition was accepted and he was granted by me, Bishop for the Diocese of the Northwest, priestly faculties to continue with his sacramental and pastoral ministry.  Father Radloff will complete his process for Clerical Incardination later this year.

Therefore, the announcement by the Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Baker has no validity, power and effect upon the continuing ministry of Father James Radloff.  Bishop Cary cannot impose any sanctions upon Father Radloff because he has resigned from the Church of Rome and has become a member of the Evangelical Catholic Church.  One cannot attempt such actions against a person who is not of member of their ecclesial body.

I wish to ensure to one and all that Father James Radloff, a priest of the Evangelical Catholic Church and its Diocese of the Northwest has full faculties to function as a Evangelical Catholic priest.  Any sacraments received via Father Radloff continues to be real and true.

I apologize for any confusion which Bishop Liam Cary of the Diocese of Baker has attempted to cause.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please feel free to email me at bishopjames@evangelicalcatholicchurch.org or phone me at 773-721-5383.

With prayers and blessings, I remain

The Most Reverend James Alan Wilkowski
Evangelical Catholic Bishop for the Diocese of the Northwest
