Permitting

Cook County Board President John Stroger

to discern future plans in peace

Bishop James Alan Wilkowski, Evangelical Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of the Northwest ads his voice today calling upon members of the Cool County political community to permit Cook County Board President John Stroger to finish discerning his plans for continuing in public service in a dignified and professional manner.

The public posturing by some within the political community to either replace or remove President Stroger has become unseemly and lacking in public dignity.

The business of the County of Cook continues to be addressed.  County Services are being fulfilled.   The superstructure of the County of Cook has not collapsed.

President Stroger's family has promised the People of Cook County that a decision regarding his future will be announced in July.  Having a member of my own family who is seriously ill, I fully understand the scope of the decision making process currently engaged by the Stroger family.  Time must be permitted for all involved to come to the right and proper decisions and I have confidence that President Stroger and his family will complete that process and inform the People of Cook County of that decision in July.

I sincerely encourage the members of the county political community to permit President Stroger and his family to complete their discernment process in a dignified and supportive manner.

He has earned that right.

Respectfully Yours in Christ,

Evangelical Catholic Bishop for the Diocese of the Northwest
Chicago, Illinois
