Diocese Endorses Proposed
Fair Minimum Wage Act (S.1062)
The Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest endorses legislation offered by Representative George Miller and Senator Edward Kennedy to raise the minimum wage from $5:15 per hour to $7.25 per hour.
Bishop James Wilkowski agrees that "a fair wage for a day's work is in line with religious teachings." Increasing the minimum wage will level the playing field for employers who want to pay workers fairly, and reduces the ability of unjust employers to undercut the market by failing to respect the dignity of work." The bishop hopes that citizens will call their representatives and senators to direct them to support S. 1062.
The Diocese thanks Representative Miller and Senator Kennedy for their efforts on this matter.
